Frederick Geen, an early member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales which received its Royal Charter in 1880, commenced practice as a chartered accountant in Stoke-on-Trent in 1884 Amongst his employees were John Thomas Sandland who joined the firm in about 1888, and subsequently qualified as an Incorporated accountant and Frederick William Carder who joined the firm in 1907 -after qualifying as a chartered accountant.
