I have had a terrible experience working with an accountant from Abacus Accountants and I would recommend that if you carry out very serious background checks before you hire them. We have been cheated by one of their accountants - Irfan Najam who positioned himself as registered, qualified accountant and we decided to trust him & engage his services due to his affiliation with what seemed like a reputable accountancy. A year later we are in a situation where we have made full advance payments for accountancy services and he is now absconding. We have been fined by HMRC for not filing returns, when he was meant to have done this well ahead of time. In addition, we have now found out that HMRC had credited a refund due to us, but on his instructions it was sent to his own account, which was never authorised. He also failed to disclose the refund to me as it is his legal duty to do so. I came to know about it from his junior accountant who quit his services as he wasn't paid for 2 months. He is unreachable across all his contact numbers and addresses. I have now had to hire another accountant in spite of me paying Irfan Najam for his service in advance and am struggling to recover money that is owed to me. I am now initiating legal proceedings against him and am in the process of reporting him to the authorities. Please stay away from Irfan Najam and be very careful working with Abacus - he is a fraud!

Having made an appointment with this firm at least a week before for a consultation a message was left on my mobile 1 1/2 hours before the appointment time asking to rearrange the appointment as the accountant had an important deadline to meet and would not be able to see me that day as planned. I was not able to access my message until 20 minutes before the appointment time.

I rang the firm expressing my annoyance at such short notice and the fact that my husband had already left work early to attend the appointment and I informed them that unless the accountant kept the agreed appointment we would not be attending any rearranged appointments. The receptionist passed my message to the accountant and a further message was then left on my mobile as I was driving home to inform me the accountant could not possibly squeeze me in hence to say I would not recommend using this firm as expect to be let down at the last moment with no consideration to the inconvenience caused as a result.

The service I have received so far has been great!

Figures are not my strong point which is why I wanted an Accountant I could trust. Kam is an excellent communicator and kept me fully abreast of events as they happened, quickly returning email and telephone calls.

Being local and able to drop in for a quick coffee and a chat is also a plus.

Most importantly for my business, Kam makes sure I don't pay more tax than I need to. I have already recommended TaxAssist to my friends.

Extremely informative and helped me greatly with understanding what I needed to do to set up my catering company. Starting a business seemed really daunting but having a knowledgeable accountant has taken most of the stress out of it all :) he registered my company and gave me a business plan, and has taken me through all the pitfalls of starting up in business.

I've been with this firm a while now, they seem to be really pro-active and as a client I get real benefits with Booth Ainsworth. (I was even sent a birthday card for my 65th!) I have, and would, recommend these as the Accountants to use in South Manchester, as they are a very friendly bunch and nothing seems to be too much trouble for them! Overall; a really trustworthy local firm.
